Airline orders take off at Dubai Airshow

During the five-day Dubai Airshow 2023, held from November 13 to 17, aircraft manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing and ATR received a significant number of orders.

The show reported 199 confirmed aircraft orders that included:

  • Emirates Airline ordered aircraft costing US$52 billion (R953bn) from Boeing, including 35 B777-8s, 55 B777-9s, 20 B787-8s and 15 B787-9s. The airline also ordered 15 A350-10s.
  • flydubai ordered its first fleet of widebodies, with 30 B787-9s worth $11 billion (R202 billion).
  • Following its signing of a lease with Air Lease Corporation for 18 B737 MAX aircraft, EgyptAir ordered 10 A350-9s.
  • Ethiopian Airlines signed an agreement with Boeing for 41 B737 MAXs and 21 B787-9s, of which 31 are options. Ethiopian also signed an MoU with Airbus for 33 A350-9s.
  • Royal Jordanian has ordered four B787-9s to expand its widebody fleet. This is in addition to its previous order, earlier this year, for two B787-9s.
  • Royal Air Maroc confirmed an order for two Boeing B787-9s.
  • Turkish Airlines subsidiary SunExpress ordered 90 Boeing 737MAX aircraft, of which 45 were firm orders and 45 were options.
