Airlink goes to court

12 Feb 2020 - by Boitumelo Masihleho

AIRLINK has

sent a formal

application to the

Johannesburg High Court

for permission to sue SAA

and its business rescue

practitioners for more than

R700 million in outstanding

airfares.

“The application aims to

clarify Airlink’s classification

as a creditor and whether

SAA was ever entitled to

appropriate Airlink’s ticket

sales revenue,” says ceo

and md of Airlink, Rodger

Foster.

The application will be

considered by the court on

February 11. “If the court

dismisses the application,

Airlink will assume the

position as creditor and it

will vote on the business

rescue plan accordingly,”

Rodger told TNW.

He adds that Airlink

has a “strong and robust

balance sheet” and

sufficient liquidity to ensure

that its operations are not

affected.

The long-standing

franchise arrangement

between the airlines sees

Airlink sold under the SAA

code SA8. This agreement,

which has existed for

the past 23 years, will

discontinue from June 10.

“A new mutually beneficial

commercial relationship

will replace the franchise

arrangement from June 11,

starting with an interline

agreement, which has

already been committed

to,” says Rodger.
