Another high-flying year for LH and Munich

Lufthansa’s long-haul expansion strategy in Munich is expected to increase passenger numbers at Munich Airport in 2020.

Munich outperforms all German airports in passenger growth and has reported record-breaking numbers for the tenth year in a row. It expects to maintain this trend in 2020.

Lufthansa plans to station more A380, A350 and new A320neo aircraft in Munich and this will underpin the airport’s 2020 target. Additional connections announced by the airline for the upcoming summer season include new flights to Bangalore, India, and services to the US cities of Detroit and Seattle.

Lufthansa subsidiary, Eurowings, is also adding Las Vegas and Orlando to its list of destinations.

In 2019, total passenger traffic at Munich Airport increased by 1,7 million passengers (4%), to 47,9 million passengers. That was the largest increase posted by any German airport last year.

The airport also attributes growing strength to an increase in traffic flows to Asia and the Americas being funnelled through Munich.
