Asata board expansion on the cards

FOUR motions were
passed at the Asata board
meeting in September
that will allow for changes to
be made to the organisation’s
constitution.
The motions related to a
proposed expansion of the
Asata board of directors to
include representatives from
all major consortiums, which
should more fully represent
the industry and the players
that fund the association.
Existing board members
unanimously voted for the
board expansion. The new
proposed structure is likely to
mirror the Tourism Business
Council’s board member set-up
where the larger board would
be divided into subcommittees
with individual chairmen driving
certain initiatives for Asata.
The new expanded board will
be voted for and appointed
in November, with existing
members serving in their
current positions until then.
Only the tour operator and
partner board positions were
filled at the recent meeting,
where Jackie Turnbull,
managing director of The
Holiday Factory and Lance
Smith, executive director for
sales at Avis were respectively
appointed.
Other motions passed
included a three-term limit
for board members to serve,
which Asata hoped would
help to introduce new blood
and transformation to the
organisation. Performance
appraisals for board members
are also likely to be introduced
to drive these unpaid volunteer
positions.
