ATNS is making ‘steady progress’

Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) has reported significant progress in maintaining its outstanding Instrument Flight Procedures.

According to the update, ATNS submitted all nine priority approach procedures for OR Tambo International Airport, King Shaka International Airport, Chief Dawid Stuurman Airport, and King Phalo Airport, to the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) in March and April.

Two of these procedures have already been approved, with the remaining seven currently undergoing ground validation.

Additionally, 19 priority arrival and departure procedures for OR Tambo International Airport were submitted and approved by SACAA. The publication of six of these procedures will become effective on May 15, and the remaining 13 will become effective from June onwards.

Through its international Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO) recruitment initiative, ATNS has successfully employed 17 new air traffic controllers.

“Whilst we have been able to maintain this steady progress, we recognise that there is still a lot of work to be done, especially the maintenance of the arrival and departure procedures at King Shaka and Cape Town International Airports,” said the ATNS statement.
