Azamara to return to Venice

Azamara will return to Venice next year, with its first call on April 3 as part of Azamara Journey’s 12-night ‘The Best of The Med Voyage’.

“Due to our long-standing relationship with the local officials and port authorities of Venice, we are thrilled to announce that we will be able to stay in this historic canal city in the neighbouring towns of Fusina and Chioggia, where only smaller ships can visit,” a spokesperson from Azamara tells Travel News. This is to keep in line with Italy’s banning of large cruise ships docking directly in Venice since August 2021.

“By taking a ferry across the South Lagoon, clients can go from Fusina to the heart of Venice in just under 30 minutes. At the end of their voyage, they will also have the opportunity to explore Chioggia, often known as Little Venice.”

Azamara says Chioggia has recently experienced a rise in tourism thanks to the flourishing of bacari, bars that serve wine and finger food along the central canal.

Azamara will sail from Venice on its seven-night ‘Italy Intensive Voyage’, which includes late nights in Ravenna, Kotor and Amalfi, and an overnight stay in Rome.

The company also will operate the seven-night ‘Amalfi & Dalmatian Coasts Voyage’, which includes late stays at Sorrento, Kotor, Dubrovnik and Sibenik, as well as an overnight stay in Venice.

Shore excursions include an evening gondola ride with a local singer. An accordionist and a motorboat cruise to the neighbouring isles of Murano and Burano for a tour of a glass-blowing factory and demonstration of traditional lace-making techniques.
