Dreams Hotels and Resorts’ 10 2nd Avenue Boutique Hotel reopened its signature restaurant, Salt Road, in Houghton, Johannesburg, last month.

Rooted in the ancient art of cooking with salt, the restaurant is led by chefs Craig Cormack and Beau du Toit, who bring over 40 years of experience and a curated salt collection from across the globe. The menu focuses on techniques such as fermenting, curing, and baking with salt, to blend into the dishes.

Menus are seasonal and designed to reduce waste, with composting as standard practice and many herbs grown on site.

A whisky and wine lounge offers curated pairing experiences, highlighting how salt can elevate tasting profiles.

On August 6, the restaurant welcomed the travel trade to experience its culinary offering. The evening started with Dreams Hotels and Resorts honouring some of the industry’s top performers, followed by tastings of some of the restaurant’s best dishes.

The restaurant’s opening forms part of broader upgrades at the hotel under the new management of Dreams Hotels and Resorts. Located in the heart of Houghton, the hotel caters for both business and leisure, with spacious suites and conferencing facilities.
