Bali proposes bank statement checks on arrival

The Bali Provincial Government plans to begin screening travellers’ bank statements before arrival for proof of sufficient funds during their stay as the region shifts its focus to more quality tourism.

The Bali Provincial Government has yet to enact the law, however Governor Wayan Koster said it was likely to be legislated this year.

In addition to checks on financial adequacy, foreign tourists will also be screened based on their intended length of stay and planned activities during their visit, reported Indonesian news agency, Antara.

However, local politicians argue that implementing the rule at a regional level will be difficult unless it is adopted as national law across Indonesia.
