Battersea Power Station is back with a bang

On Friday, October 14, Battersea Power Station opened its turbine halls to the public for the first time in 40 years.

The halls have been restored to their former glory after a Malaysian consortium bought the power station in 2012. These, together with a lift experience inside one of the four chimneys, make up London’s latest attraction.

The makeover involved taking down the four corner chimneys and rebuilding them brick by brick; the restoration of the two turbine halls dating back to the 1930s and 1950s; and turning the boiler house into a grand atrium.

‘Lift 109’ takes guests up the inside of the north chimney for a view of the London skyline. An immersive experience has also been created about the power station.

Shops and restaurants inside include Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen and Bar, Battersea Bookshop and Curated Makers.

The opening kicked off with a five-day festival of power featuring Arcadia’s Lords of Lightning, a multimillion-volt duelling spectacle, live performances, activities and installations.
