Belgium now welcomes South Africans

Belgium has joined the growing list of countries around the world reopening to vaxxed travellers from southern African countries.

With the travel ban now lifted, fully vaccinated travellers from South Africa (including those who have been in South Africa in the 14 days prior to travel) are no longer denied entry to Belgium as long as they have the necessary documentation.

This includes a Passenger Location Form, proof of vaccination, and a negative PCR test result from a test taken in the 72 hours prior to departure. Another PCR test is required on the day of arrival in Belgium, and travellers must quarantine until they receive their result. (NB The Belgian government defines quarantine as ‘preventive isolation’, wherein a person must stay at any single address, either a private home or a hotel, and maintain social distancing from those around them.)

A final PCR test must then be taken on day seven of their stay in Belgium.

Unvaccinated travellers may only travel to Belgium for essential purposes, with an Essential Travel Certificate or equivalent official document as proof.
