Breaking news: China smog cancels flights

05 Dec 2013 - by Tammy Sutherns

A thick blanket of smog has descended over eastern areas of China, affecting flights across the country.
The China Meteorological Administration has released yellow warnings of heavy fog and haze (the third-highest in a four-level alert system) while media reports show that the air pollution monitoring sites recorded a reading of above 250, which is labelled ‘very unhealthy’, on December 5.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport has seen excessive delays and flight cancellations due to the smog. Travellers are urged to check the status of their flights with airlines.
The Meteorological Administration expects the smog to continue until December 8.
