In a glittering event, MSC Cruises officially named its newest flagship, MSC World America, at a ceremony on April 9 at its newly inaugurated, largest cruise terminal in the world, PortMiami.
Hollywood stars Drew Barrymore and Orlando Bloom headlined the occasion, with Barrymore performing her role as the ship’s Godmother by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
The ceremony, which combined live entertainment, gala dining, and a dazzling drone and fireworks display against the Miami skyline, also celebrated MSC Cruises’ commitment to innovation, sustainability and guest experience.
MSC World America began its first official cruise on April 12, offering alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Each itinerary included a stop at Ocean Cay, Puerto Plata, San Juan, Cozumel, Costa Maya and Roatán.
The ultramodern ship boasts 22 decks, 2 614 staterooms, and more than 40 000sqm of public space. This is the first MSC ship to feature seven onboard districts, allowing guests to personalise their holiday experience with venues tailored for families, adults, adventure-seekers and luxury-lovers.

After the naming ceremony, guests embarked on a two-night celebratory sailing to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, where MSC’s environmental arm, the MSC Foundation, inaugurated its new Marine Conservation Centre.
The centre will support coral restoration efforts under the Foundation’s Super Coral Reefs Programme and provide an interactive educational space for both scientists and cruise guests.
