Mauritius closed its port and airport earlier today, January 17, after raising its warning as a potentially dangerous tropical cyclone approached the Indian Ocean island nation, according to Times Live.
Authorities raised their alert to class III as tropical cyclone Berguitta approached in a bid to allow at least six hours of daylight before the arrival of gusts of up to 120km/h.
Gusts hitting 120km/h could are expected by this evening, causing rough sea conditions.
The Airport of Mauritius said the airport would be closed from 07h00, local time, until further notice. The country's main port was also closed.
