There have been a few days of confusion for agents and their clients, in which the Turkish Embassy said the country's e-Visa programme was temporarily disabled for South Africans and visa seekers should go to Pretoria in order to get their visas.
At the time it was unclear whether this was a technical problem or a change in policy - agents feared that South Africans would no longer be able to get e-Visas for Turkey, a popular choice for holidays, business trips and transit. The e-Visa was a part of a good deal.
However, it appears that there has now been an about-turn and the previous status quo is back in place. Turkish Airlines issued a statement on Saturday, July 9, saying that the airline had been advised that the technical problems on the site had been resolved and that South African passport holders could once more request free e-Visas using the link https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/
