Carnival Corp steers clear of Red Sea

After consulting with global security experts and government authorities, Carnival Corporation has rerouted itineraries for 12 ships across its seven cruise brands which were scheduled to transit the Red Sea in May.

The cruise lines affected are Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Windstar Cruises, Seabourn Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, Cunard Line and P&O Princess Cruises.

According to a Carnival release, the diversions and the halt of Red Sea cruises until November have not impacted bookings. Rather, higher-than-expected bookings will offset the anticipated losses.

Carnival brand Costa Cruises previously indicated it would cancel its voyage through the Red Sea this spring, reports travelmole.com.

Princess Cruises’ World Cruise will no longer visit the Middle East or Asia. Instead, the ship will add calls in Australia, continuing to South Africa and along the West coast of Africa en route to Europe.

Royal Caribbean and MSC Cruises have rerouted ships away from the conflict zone, with the latter choosing to sail around the Cape.
