Carnival Corporation has notified passengers of a data breach that may have compromised personal information.
The cruise company said its IT security team identified unauthorised activity on its systems on April 13. An investigation found that an unauthorised third party had gained access to certain passengers’ personal information.
“The company acted swiftly to block the unauthorised activity and immediately began working with third-party security experts to further strengthen its security and conduct a thorough investigation,” the cruise line said in a statement.
The company is analysing the affected data to determine what information was accessed and which individuals were impacted. According to Carnival, the compromised information may include passenger names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and government-issued identification numbers.
“The company is notifying individuals whose personal information was affected via email, as required and where available,” said Carnival.
Carnival has advised passengers to remain vigilant against identity theft and fraud by monitoring account statements and credit records for any signs of unauthorised activity.
