Cathay considers personal cutlery in business class

In a survey of its loyalty customers, Cathay Pacific asked passengers if they would be willing to supply their own cutlery on business-class flights.

Cathay is exploring unconventional initiatives to increase its sustainability. The airline proposed green initiatives for business-class passengers in a questionnaire directed at loyalty programme customers on its Cathay Lab platform.

It asked passengers if they would be willing to supply their own cutlery for meals. The carrier also asked passengers whether they would be willing to actively pick up and dispose of plastic water bottles for recycling at the aircraft exit and return them to cabin crew before landing or if they would be willing to bring their own water bottles.

The survey aims to measure passenger receptiveness to these unconventional green initiatives. However, it is unlikely that this initiative would be implemented without objection. For example, in South Africa, Acsa does not permit passengers to carry stainless steel cutlery through security.
