Bosnia-Croatia tourist train launched

A tourist train between Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ploče in Croatia began operations this past weekend, connecting central Bosnia with the Adriatic coast.

The train departs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will operate until August 31, according to Croatia Week.

The Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ŽFBiH) re-established the line after many years without passenger services between Sarajevo and Croatia.

Japan luxury train ends service

East Japan Railway’s Cassiopeia luxury sleeper train completed its final journey on June 30, marking the end of a 25-year service that connected Tokyo and Sapporo in Hokkaido.

The double-decker train with high-end accommodation ended regular operations in 2016 following the launch of the Hokkaido Shinkansen but operated a few times a month as a sightseeing train.

Ageing infrastructure and equipment are being cited as the cause for the train’s retirement, according to The Japan Times.

East Japan Railway’s only luxury sleeper train now is the Train Suite Shiki-shima. However, the company plans to launch a new overnight limited express service in 2027.
