CemAir won’t stop flights

CemAir, the privately owned domestic and regional carrier, has no plans to halt any of its flights, and will fly its full schedule during the period in which other domestic carriers, Lift and Comair, have said they will not conduct flights (July 5-31, but with a caveat that the shutdown of flights may continue beyond July 31, should the lockdown continue beyond July 31).

The lockdown rule forbidding travel between Gauteng and the rest of South Africa has convinced Lift and Comair to temporarily mothball their operations.

CemAir’s national sales and marketing manager, Shaniel Singh, told Travel News that the airline expects to add capacity during this period, using a CRJ900, with 90 seats.

CemAir operates international routes, from Johannesburg to Luanda and Lusaka.

It also services the following important domestic routes – Johannesburg to Durban, Margate, Plettenberg Bay, George, Cape Town, Kimberley, Bloemfontein and Hoedspruit.

The route from Durban to Bloemfontein is also serviced, and CemAir also offers flights from Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay.

The carrier has some new planned routes on the cards – these are Port Elizabeth to Bloemfontein, Cape Town to Hoedspruit and Johannesburg to Maputo.
