CHANGI Airport in
Singapore will open
a new lifestyle
destination, Jewel, during
the second quarter of this
year.
The 10-storey complex
will link Terminals One,
Two and Three but
clients will have to pass
through immigration into
Singapore to enter it.
Visas are not required for
South African passport
holders. Jewel will also be
connected to a Singapore
Mass Rapid Transport
station for easy access to
the city.
The mixed-use
development is set to
become Singapore’s
largest air-conditioned
indoor garden, featuring
play attractions, shopping
and dining experiences, a
hotel and airport support
facilities.
It will also feature the
world’s tallest indoor
waterfall at a height of
40 metres, illuminated
by light shows at night.
Visitors can enjoy fivestorey walking trails
meandering through the
lush greenery, shopping
and dining spots during
their ascent to the
Canopy Park which will.
contain over 2 000 trees
and more than 100 000
shrubs from around the
world.
There will be walking and
bouncing nets, a glassbottomed canopy bridge
suspended 23 metres
above ground, life-sized
animal topiaries and
foggy bowls that give the
impression of walking in
the clouds. Jewel will also
be home to Singapore’s
largest hedge maze and
the world’s first mirror
maze set in a garden.
There will be tube and
open slides and an event
plaza able to host up to
1 000 guests for largescale celebrations. The
Changi Experience Studio
will enable guests to
learn about the history
of Changi Airport and get
a glimpse into airport
operations.
“Another first will be
Jewel’s inter-modal
transport lounge,”
said a representative
from Changi Airport at
the recent Singapore
Workshop held in
Johannesburg.
“We are working on
providing seamless, intermodal travel experiences
here. We are working
toward providing facilities
that would allow a cruise
passenger, as an example,
to be able to collect his or
her cruise boarding pass
at the lounge before being
transferred directly to the
cruise ship. Ultimately, a
client should not need to
see their luggage from the
time that they drop it off
at Ortia until they arrive in
their cabin on board the
cruise ship.
