China simplifies visa entry, woos visitors

On January 11, China’s National Immigration Administration implemented five measures to simplify the process for foreign nationals to visit.

The measures allow foreign visitors easier access to business, education and tourism opportunities, announced nia.gov.cn as follows:

  1. Conditions have been relaxed for foreign nationals applying for rushed port visas for non-diplomatic visits, official business activities, visits and exchanges, investment and entrepreneurship, private affairs, or visiting relatives. The new measure allows visitors to apply at a port visa authority with an invitation letter and other documents.
  2. Travellers transiting within 24 hours are exempt from border inspection at nine international airports in China: Beijing Capital, Beijing Daxing, Chengdu Tianfu, Guangzhou Baiyun, Hangzhou Xiaoshan, Shanghai Pudong, Shenzhen Bao’an, Xiamen Gaoqi, and Xi’an Xianyang.
  3. Foreign tourists already in China can apply for visa extensions, renewals, and re-issuances at exit-entry administrations of the closest police stations to where they stay.
  4. Every foreign visitor already in China can apply for a multiple-entry visa at exit-entry administrations of the closest police stations to where they stay.
  5. The materials required for visa applications for foreign visitors in China have been minimised. Visitors’ accommodation registration records, business licences, and other information that can be accessed through the shared information systems are exempt from having to present physical certificates when applying for visas.
