Clients need specific insurance for Mauritius

Agents who have clients travelling to Mauritius should be aware that it is mandatory for those clients to have proof of travel insurance that specifically covers COVID-19 as well as the normal medical cover.

Travel insurance certificates that do not specifically mention the cover given for COVID-19-related events are not acceptable.

A Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority spokesperson said: “All passengers need to ensure that the mandatory travel insurance mentions COVID-19 cover.  Mauritius is looking for the wording that COVID-19 is covered, in addition to the medical expense cover. Passengers will be denied boarding if the policy does not include COVID-19 cover.”

Travel News has heard that some passengers have already been denied boarding due to not having the correct cover.

Another important point is that travellers must download and complete the correct forms from the Air Mauritius website. These are the passenger locator form and the health self-declaration form – these must be completed before check-in at OR Tambo. Travellers who are staying in non-hotel accommodation in Mauritius additionally need to download and complete a health laboratory form – this is over and above the locator form and the health declaration.
