Comair Flight Services goes ‘neutral’

COMAIR Flight Services

(CFS) has launched its

Pure Flight Programme,

which, it says, will make it the

first carbon-neutral aircraft

operator in Africa.

“While a number of other

aircraft operators offer optional

carbon offset initiatives, CFS is

the first in Africa to go carbon

neutral on all our flights, with

the offset costs automatically

included in the price of our

charter flights,” says CFS.

Headquartered at Lanseria

International Airport in

Johannesburg, CFS offers

aircraft charter, management

and flight support services. Its

fleet ranges from single-engine

turboprops to large business

jets and airliners.

The company has partnered

with Credible Carbon to

create the CFS Pure Flight

Programme, which allows

CFS to source carbon credits

to offset its carbon dioxide

emissions. The carbon credits

are sourced from CSI projects

that are independently audited

against UNFCC (United Nations

Framework Convention on

Climate Change) approved

carbon market standards.

Kerry Searle, client

services director of CFS,

says sustainability is very

important to clients and that

they want a simple way to

offset the carbon that their

flights produce. Kerry says

CFS has been able to help

customers achieve this, while

still remaining competitive on

pricing.

“The first phase of our

programme is to offset the

largest source of carbon,

namely aircraft engine

emissions. Once it is fully

implemented, we’d like to

move on to the next phase,

which will include offsetting our

entire carbon footprint at the

workplace as well as replacing

all our on-board catering,

packaging and equipment with

reusable or biodegradable

packaging.”
