Dennis,
operations
manager
at Latam
Airlines, died
on July 30.
Cathleen
worked at
South African Airways for 23
years before moving over
to Border Air 10 years ago.
“Cathleen was larger than
life; she was fun, had the
most wonderful sense of
humour and could always
laugh at herself. She was
incredibly loyal and ethical
and did so much for the
company and the team.
She was so professional
and always went the extra
mile for her clients, her staff
and the company,” said Lu
Dowell, ceo of Border Air.
Her funeral was held on
Friday August 4.
 Terry
Stone, senior
consultant of
Club Travel,
died on July
26. He spent
his entire
career in
the travel
industry and the past
15 years at Club Travel.
Charmaine van Nierkerk,
hr and operations manager
of Club Travel, who worked
with Terry at American
Express and later at Club
Travel, says: “Terry firmly
believed that he had to
have experienced an airline,
hotel or destination before
he could recommend it
to a client, so he literally
travelled the world, often at
his own cost.” Wally Gaynor,
md of Club Travel, says:
“He was a true gentleman
and an old-style, passionate
travel consultant. He treated
his clients like gold and they
adored him – in fact, they
often invited him to travel
with them.

ITT celebrates Mandela Day

INSPIRATIONS Travel and
Tours (ITT) spent July 16 at St
Theresa’s Children’s home in
Durban to celebrate Mandela
Day. St Theresa’s cares for
orphaned and vulnerable
boys, including some with
cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
ITT’s agents and their families
gave the facility a fresh coat of
paint and the company teamed
up with Jam clothing to donate
91 pairs of flip flops. ITT also
donated stationery, treats and
toiletries. 

Appointments

 Sun Africa Hotels has
named Mohammed Hersi
as the new group ceo.
Mohammed is current
chairman of the Kenya
Tourism Federation, and
was gm of the Sarova
Whitesands Resort and Spa
for ten years before moving
to Heritage Hotels, where he
was appointed ceo. He will
relocate to Nairobi.
 Faircity Quatermain
and Faircity Falstaff have
appointed Shaun Wheeler
as new gm. Shaun was gm
at hotels such as the Palace
of the Lost City, Table Bay
Hotel, Zimbali, Beverly Hills
Hotel, InterContinental
Johannesburg Airport and
InterContinental Taba
Heights in Egypt. Shaun
comes from Durban and
studied hotel management
at the Durban Hotel School,
ML Sultan Technikon, now
the Durban University of
Technology”
