Correction: Emirates amends baggage allowance

14 May 2020
Comments | 0

Travel News incorrectly reported yesterday on on EK’s new baggage allowance rules: “Emirates slashes baggage allowance.” The story below is the corrected version. Travel News apologises for any confusion caused by the error.

Emirates has announced a change to its free checked-in baggage allowance in economy class, but only under the fare brand ‘Special’ (V and X class) with effect from May 11.  The other brands, Saver, Flex and Flex Plus are unchanged in all markets.

Under the fare brand ‘Special’, the piece concept for journeys originating in Africa, including South Africa, was previously two pieces weighing 23kg each. This is now reduced to one piece weighing 23kg.

Under the fare brand ‘Special’, in weight-concept markets (outside Africa), the free checked-in baggage allowance has increased from 15kg to 20kg.

Bookings will be updated in GDSs with an SSR comment to confirm baggage allowance.
