Correction: Mobile test unit at CPT Airport for inbound Antigen tests only

09 Dec 2020
Cape Town International Airport

Travel News has ascertained that the mobile testing unit in the pause area in the international arrivals hall at Cape Town International Airport is presently conducting Antigen tests (rather than PCR tests as stated in the article on Nov 27: https://www.travelnews.co.za/article/mobile-covid19-test-unit-opens-ct)

The tests are intended for inbound passengers only, ie for inbound passengers arriving without a valid negative PCR test, (ie tests for outbound passengers are not conducted at CTIA). The cost of the Antigen test is R175 and results are available in 45 minutes. The operating hours are from 10h00-18h00 daily and appointments are not required.

King Shaka International Airport in Durban also has a testing unit. This is a mobile laboratory in a Mercedes va,n airside in the International Arrivals Hall. The Durban mobile unit performs Antigen tests for inbound travellers only,  if they are not able to furnish officials with a valid negative PCR test on arrival. Tests for outbound passengers are not conducted.

Tests cost R175 and the mobile testing unit’s operating hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 10h00 until 14h00.

ORTIA has four such mobile units and is currently conducting PCR tests for both outbound and inbound passengers, at the cost of R600 and with a four- to six-hour wait for the result.

The services are supplied by the National Health Laboratory Services.
