The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation opened the Majlis Park-Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Pink corridor for passenger services yesterday, March 14.
The corridor, at 21,56km, is the longest stretch to open in Delhi Metro’s Phase 3, and has 12 stations connecting Delhi University’s south campus to the metro for the first time. It is also the first Metro corridor to connect to the Indian capital’s arterial Ring Road.
Speaking at the formal inauguration of the line, Union Minister for science and technology, earth sciences, environment, forests and climate change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said: “[The] twelve stations on this section have been given platinum rating for adherence to green building norms. Delhi Metro deserves appreciation for this achievement.”
The opening of this line takes the Delhi Metro network to a total of 252km, and 185 stations. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs, Sh. Hardeep Singh Puri, said the overall network throughout India is over 450km, with the 700km mark scheduled to be reached soon.
