Authorities in the US and Korea, including the US Department of Transportation and the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, have approved a new joint venture partnership between Delta Air Lines and Korean Air.
Under the new partnership Delta and Korean Air will implement full reciprocal codesharing on each other’s networks; offer reciprocal loyalty programme benefits, including customers of both airlines being able to earn miles on Korean Air’s SKYPASS programme and Delta’s SkyMiles programme; start implementing joint sales and marketing initiatives; and increase trans-Pacific cargo co-operation.
The new joint venture builds on almost 20 years of close partnership between the airlines, which were founding member of the SkyTeam alliance and have offered an expanded codeshare network since 2016. The airlines co-located into the new Terminal 2 at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport earlier this year and, with the new partnership, Delta and Korean Air’s shared customers will have access to more than 290 destinations in the Americas, and more than 80 in Asia.
