Delta and LATAM Airlines have announced a partnership that will service a combined total of 435 destinations worldwide.
Delta will invest $1.9bn (R 28.6bn) for a 20% stake in LATAM and $350m (R 5bn) to establish the partnership.
Delta will acquire four LATAM A350 aircraft and LATAM has committed to purchasing 10 additional A350 aircraft to be delivered beginning in 2020 through 2025.
The partnership deal means that LATAM will leave the oneworld alliance as one of its member carriers.
In a statement, oneworld expresses disappointment about LATAM’S departure but says that it respects the decision. Oneworld went on to assure customers that until LATAM’s official exit from the alliance, all full customer benefits will still apply.
