THE N-shed passenger
terminal in the Port of Durban
has received an upgrade
to cope with an increase in
demand.
Improvements include
added signage, balustrades,
turnstiles and awnings as well
as new ramps, a new fasttrack
lounge, immigration and
check-in desks, new baggage
scanners and conveyor belts,
an air-conditioning system,
extra seating, a back-up
generator and an uninterrupted
power supply.
With South African annual
cruise growth at record levels,
Allan Foggitt, sales and
marketing director for MSC
Cruises, says the time was
right to improve efficiency. As
such, MSC entered into a joint
initiative with Transnet National
Ports Authority to upgrade the
existing passenger terminal.
“The upgraded terminal will
be able to process 5 000
passengers in a five-hour
period,” says Allan.
