The Swiss holiday airline Edelweiss operated its first non-stop flight from Windhoek to Zurich on June 1. Flight WK83 departed Hosea Kutako International Airport at 21h46 with 253 passengers on board.
“Zurich is located in the heart of Europe and offers excellent connections to all major cities on the continent. Zurich Airport is one of the most modern airports in Europe and impresses with short and comfortable transfer routes. As part of the SWISS hub system, our guests also benefit from optimal connections across the entire Lufthansa Group network,” says Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss.
The new route will be operated with the Airbus A350, the newest long-haul aircraft in the Edelweiss fleet. The Airbus A350 offers a particularly quiet and comfortable travel experience while also delivering high efficiency and lower fuel consumption compared with earlier generations of aircraft. Thanks to larger windows, pleasant cabin lighting, and a modern sense of space, guests enjoy additional comfort on long-haul flights.
Starting in 2027, Edelweiss’s Airbus A350 fleet will also feature a completely new cabin. This includes new seats in all travel classes, including a new Business Class with more privacy and an expanded Premium Economy offering. The new cabin product is complemented by modern design, new materials, an improved lighting concept, and in-flight internet.
Edelweiss is now flying to Windhoek twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. Starting in mid-July 2026, the service will be expanded to three weekly flights through the end of October. Flights will then operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Flight schedule:
- Flight WK82 departs Zurich at 10h05 arriving in Windhoek at 19h40.
- Flight WK83 departs Windhoek at 21h40, arriving in Zurich at 07h35 the following day.
With the new Edelweiss route to Zurich, the Lufthansa Group is further expanding its service between Namibia and Europe. In addition to the new Edelweiss flights to Zurich, sister company Discover Airlines already offers daily non-stop flights to Frankfurt as well as three weekly flights to Munich. In total, the Lufthansa Group now offers 13 weekly non-stop flights from Windhoek to the European hubs of Zurich, Frankfurt, and Munich, providing travellers with optimal connections within Europe as well as to numerous international destinations.
