The Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa says his ministry will introduce new incentives to enhance the tourism climate and increase the number of hotels, as the goal is to accommodate 30 million tourists by 2028.

Under discussion are:

  • The ongoing development at the Greco-Roman Museum
  • The Ben Ezra Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in Egypt and the Middle East, is being restored as part of an initiative to preserve religious heritage sites, including Pharaonic, Islamic, Coptic and Jewish sites.
  • The Babylon Fortress, a Roman fortress dating back to 30BCE, on the Nile.
  • The Magra El-Oyoun is a 13thC Mamluk aqueduct – an area of 40 hectares is to be renovated, including 79 buildings, 1 924 houses and 18 commercial centres.
  • The Grand Egyptian Museum is an archaeological museum being constructed as part of the master plan for the Giza plateau. Upon its completion, between October 2023 and February 2024, the museum will be the first to exhibit the full tomb collection of King Tutankhamun, plus a collection of about 5 000 artefacts which will be relocated from the Egyptian Museum and other museums in Luxor, Minya, Sohag, Assuit, Eni Suef, Fayoum, the Delta and Alexandria.
