While the world-famous ‘Place of Gold’ in the heart of South Africa houses many tourist hotspots, the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality displayed its own offering at a recent press showcase, courtesy of Ekurhuleni Tourism and the Gauteng Tourism Authority.

Comprising Alberton, Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan, Edenvale, Germiston, Springs, Kempton Park, and Nigel, the municipality boasts several of its own attractions on the East Rand, from the Formula-K Circuit, Paintball City, and Butcher 2.0 Bar and Grill to the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre Johannesburg.

If you need a 1 000-guest venue for a conference, private function, or wedding, don’t overlook the Radisson Airport Hotel. A 10-minute drive from O R Tambo International Airport, the hotel is not far from shopping malls and restaurants, and the Kempton Park Golf Course. With 248 contemporary hotel rooms, a fitness centre, and the largest freestanding spa of its kind in Johannesburg, the hotel also has multiple on-site dining options.

South Africa’s new ‘Grade A’ Formula-K circuit at the FK Sport & Business Park in Benoni is now operational. It is the only circuit in the country currently able to host a karting world championship event, should they apply for certification by the FIA governing body.

Just a 20-minute drive away, travellers can make a stop at Daveyton’s Butcher 2.0 Bar & Grill, which also hosts large and small events, functions, parties and shows.

Finally, the nearby Paintball City in Boksburg offers five – soon to be six – different playing terrains, as well as a children’s playing area.
