Ethiopian adjusts JNB, Windhoek flights

Ethiopian Airlines has implemented temporary service adjustments to its Addis Ababa-Johannesburg and Addis Ababa-Windhoek routes in the first quarter of this year.

Until March 1 the flights between Addis Ababa and Johannesburg, which operate daily, have been reduced from 21 to 18; and until February 28 the weekly flights between Addis Ababa and Windhoek are now serviced by the Boeing 787-800/900 instead of the Boeing 737-800.

Abel Alemu, the airline’s Regional Manager for Southern Africa, says: “The capacity adjustment on the Addis Ababa-Johannesburg sector is provisional and in line with the market situation. Ethiopian Airlines has deployed capacity to other markets from January 12 to March 31. The flights will be reinstated on April 1, ensuring 21 weekly flights – three daily flights. The change with the aircraft on the Windhoek route is for operational reasons.”

Flights operate daily unless otherwise indicated, with the schedule being as follows:

Addis Ababa-Johannesburg, from January 15 to March 1

  • Departing Addis Ababa: 08h40; arriving Johannesburg: 13h15
  • Departing Addis Ababa: 15h30; arriving Johannesburg: 19h55 (no flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until March 31)
  • Departing Addis Ababa: 23h30; arriving Johannesburg: 03h55 (+1 daylight savings)

Johannesburg-Addis Ababa

  • Departing Johannesburg: 08h20; arriving Addis Ababa: 14h45 (no flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until March 31)
  • Departing Johannesburg: 14h10; arriving Addis Ababa: 20h25
  • Departing Johannesburg: 23h00; arriving Addis Ababa: 05h25 (+1 daylight savings)

Addis Ababa-Windhoek, from January 9 to February 28

  • Departing Addis Ababa: 08h35; arriving Windhoek: 13h20
  • Departing Windhoek: 14h20; arriving Addis Ababa: 21h10
