European Commission launches travellers’ rights app

The EC has launched an app for travellers to check their rights when they are stranded at European airports. The app is available for download on four mobile platforms; the iPhone and iPad, BlackBerry, Google Android and Windows 7 phones.  It covers rail and air transport but will also cover bus/coach and marine travel in 2013.

EC vice president, Siim Kallas, said: “How many of us have stood in an airport and felt the frustration of people telling you that you have no rights when you know you have! With this application millions of travellers can have easy access to the right information about their passenger rights when they most need it, when unexpected situations arise.”

Travellers can use the app to find out if they are entitled to compensation if they are denied boarding a plane after a delay or if luggage has been damaged after an accident.

If travellers feel their rights have been violated, the app provides a list of people to contact for complaints.
