Everest set to reopen

Nepal has started issuing climbing permits for Mount Everest and other Himalayan peaks, four and a half months after its government halted expeditions, according to Nepal’s state-run Anadolu Agency.

Last week, the government lifted its four-month nationwide lockdown and a tourism ministry spokesman said trekking and mountaineering would have to comply with a health protocol to operate, which the ministry is still “mulling over”.

"The next climbing season is in autumn, which is still more than a month away. We will operate international flights from August 17. We still have some time," he told Anadolu Agency.
