BIRDLOVERS can view several new additions to the Pretoria Zoo after its bird breeding unit produced hatchings of five bird species in the past week. The hatchings, which include a black-faced conure, a king vulture, a Eurasian eagle owl, whitefaced owl and a crowned plover, will be hand-reared at the breeding unit. Of particular interest is the Eurasian eagle owl which occurs mainly in mountainous forest and semi-desert or rocky-sloped areas of Europe and Asia. (Adéle Mackenzie)
