FlightSiteAgent gets off to Send your cruising news to mandyw@nowmedia.co.za a flying start

IN UNDER a year of

operations FlightSiteAgent

has already broken its

three-year target of signing

up 3 000 travel agents.

FlightSite, a subsidiary

of Club Travel, launched

FlightSiteAgent.co.za – a

booking platform that

enables anyone to become

an Independent Travel

Consultant (ITC) – in March

last year.

Successful growth

aside, founding director of

FlightSite, Rian Bornman,

says the most satisfying

aspect of the company’s

journey thus far has been

seeing people who have

never been involved in travel

before, starting up their own

businesses and living out

their dreams.

“Together, with our

partners, our long-term goal

is to drive growth, whereby

anyone is able to break

into the travel industry in

South Africa. We plan to

do this by giving proactive

entrepreneurs a ‘business

in a box’ or, in other

words, the tools to start

a financially viable travel

business today,” he says.

No travel agent

qualifications, GDS or travel

industry experience are

required. Sign-up is free.

No deposits or sureties

are needed, nor contracts

or start-up fees. All that

is required is a cellphone

number and an email

address. Sign-ups have to

load money into an account

and then have access to

the best nett fares drawn

from Travelport, aggregators

and airlines, and are able to

determine their own markups,

making them more

competitive than traditional

travel agencies.

FlightSiteAgent’s

considerable success has

prompted the company to

extend its offering to also

provide agents with access

to new inventory, including

car hire, bus tickets, and

bed and breakfast and

guesthouse options.
