FlySafair system outage over

16 Oct 2024

Delays continue for FlySafair flights across the country, as the airline works to resolve a backlog caused by technical system challenges.

Technical issues in FlySafair’s check-in and boarding processes at several airports, including OR Tambo, King Shaka International and Cape Town International. In response, FlySafair staff manually checked in passengers at the gates, causing FlySafair flights to be delayed.

Passengers reported waiting in queues for hours at a time on the social media platform X.

FlySafair’s Chief Marketing Officer Kirby Gordon told Travel News yesterday afternoon that the technical glitch had been resolved, the systems are now back online and check-ins are working as they should.

He added that this would affect the airline’s ontime performance.

Gordon added that baggage was left behind on some flights due to the system error. “All bags that were left behind have been allocated to flights to that destination and are shipping out. The last shipment was loaded on a 3pm (Wednesday) Durban flight and that should round up the last bags,” he said.

Many flights have been allocated later departure times, and as the system is back online, Gordon was confident the delays will work out of the system soon. These adjustments have been communicated to customers using the contact details that were given at the time of booking. This includes SMS, WhastApp or in-app notifications.

“These situations always highlight the importance of agents giving us accurate customer contact details,” said Gordon.
