FlySafair warns of social media scams

FlySafair has warned passengers to be on high alert for a surge in social media scams impersonating the airline, especially during peak travel periods and promotional campaigns.

The airline says it has become increasingly common for scammers to use fake Facebook pages and phishing messages to lure consumers into fraudulent flight deals, compromising both their money and personal information.

“We recently saw fake posts claiming to be FlySafair selling six months’ worth of unlimited flights for R56,” said Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair.

“It’s next to impossible to stop these impersonators entirely. While we do our best to report these scams, we urge customers to double-check the account posting the deal.”

Another tactic involves sending links to websites that look similar to FlySafair’s but are designed to steal financial or personal information.Travellers and agents are advised to ensure they are using the correct, secure website.

“If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts,” Gordon said. “Our priority is to ensure a safe and secure experience for our passengers, from booking to boarding.”

Travellers and agents who suspect a scam are encouraged to report it to FlySafair directly and avoid engaging with suspicious links or accounts.
