Food for thought: around KZN in 80 minutes?

26 May 2000 - by Dave Marsh

PHINEAS Fogg would have had no trouble whatsoever getting around the world in 80 days if he had followed one of KwaZulu Natal Tourism assistant information officer's map!
Last week, Travel Now quickly needed to find out the approximate distance between Durban and St Lucia. Being somewhat under pressure, we took the lazy route and - rather than taking time out to consult a map - decided to rather make a quick phone call direct to the professionals.
"It's about 40 kilometres or a two and a half hour drive from Durban," we were told by the said assistant information officer.
Incredulity prompted us to ask again - and again we received the same answer!
However, it must be said that she promised to "find out properly " and duly returned our call within ten minutes - with the correct information of approximately 250 kilometres.
