Four of South Africa’s airports will be
undergoing a name change as part of the Transformation of Heritage Landscape
Government programme.

A formal public participation process is
currently underway, as per South Africa’s Geographical Names Council Act, with
a deadline for public commentary to rename the airport set for June 6, reports Traveller24.

Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) announced,
on May 24, that it was in the process of accepting suggested names for four
airports under its care.

The following airports have been earmarked
to undergo the name change process: Cape Town International Airport, Kimberly
Airport, East London Airport and Port Elizabeth International Airport.

Cape Town International Airport will be
hosting a special public participation meeting on Monday (June 4). Those
interested in attending are asked to meet at Parkade one on Level one at 18h30
until 20h00.

Furthermore, Acsa has created an SMS line
for those who would like to be involved in the process: +27 79 947 7410;
alternatively an email can be sent to airportnamechange@chand.co.za
until June 6.

Acsa has confirmed that flight codes will not change as a result of the name changes.
