Friuli-Venezia Giulia in northern Italy is reimbursing visitors who travel there by train from elsewhere in the country.
The area is known for its ski resorts in Monte Zoncolan, the town of Tarvisio and the spa town of Grado.
To be reimbursed for their train fare, visitors must travel on the state-run Trenitalia trains or the high-speed Frecce lines and book a package that includes a two-night stay at participating hotels. After the package has been booked, the train fare will be deducted from the total amount.
The local tourist board said in a release that the return ticket must be to one of five stations: Latisana-Lignano-Bibione, Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado, Trieste Airport, Trieste Centrale, or Udine.
Travellers are also offered a card that gives them free entry to museums, free public transport and other discounts.
Local tourist board, PromoTurismoFVG, is running the incentive until May 31, 2023.
