Free Wi-Fi for foreign MICE visitors to Taipei

To help drive the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry of Taipei City, the Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) announced that the Taipei Free public Wi-Fi access service would be available for foreigners attending MICE events in Taiwan from this month.

According to TPEDOIT, business people will be able to enjoy free Internet at some of the city’s public spaces, including main roads, commercial districts and a number of places indoors. They will no longer need to apply for Wi-Fi service via visitor information centres but simply use the account provided by their local agents to go online with unlimited access.

Information and Tourism Commissioner, Chao Hsin-Pin, said the agency hoped to offer foreigners a convenient and friendly environment where they could share information online and connect to the world by integrating the TPE-Free platform established by the Department of Information Technology.

While encouraging travel agencies to apply for the service for their foreign guests, TPEDOIT meanwhile emphasises that only foreign individuals attending MICE events of a certain scale qualify for it.
