Germany to drop 3G entry rule

Taking into account falling COVID-19 case numbers across Germany, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has confirmed the relaxation of the rules for entering the country on June 1. This will remain in force until the end of August.

"Until the end of August, we will suspend the 3G rule on entry," the politician told the Funke Mediengruppe. (The ‘3G’ rule stands for geimpt, genesen, getestet, translated as vaccinated, recovered, tested).

Current entry rules requiring 3G remain in force for treavellers over 12 years until June 1.

The updated rules also include the recognition of not only those vaccines approved for use in the EU, but all vaccines approved by the WHO, as proof of vaccination on entry.

Germany stated earlier in May that it had no plans to lift the mask mandate for flights coming into the country despite new EU guidance.

Germany has one of the highest vaccination rates in Europe. 77,5% of the population have received the full primary course of COVID vaccination and 59,5% have received a third, booster dose.
