UK-based company Holiday Extras has released its annual Good Trip Index, which ranks countries based on data from seven travel indices.

  1. Human rights
  2. Animal welfare
  3. Sustainability
  4. LGBTQ+ rights
  5. Women’s safety
  6. Quality of life
  7. Press freedom

Switzerland took the top spot in the ranking, scoring particularly well for human freedoms, animal welfare, and quality of life. Denmark and Sweden followed closely behind, in second and third place, respectively.

The Seychelles received the highest ranking for sub-Saharan Africa, coming 41st. The Indian Ocean island nation scored particularly highly in sustainability. South Africa was the second-highest country in Africa, in 42nd position.

Somalia scored lowest in Africa, coming in at 182. Iran was at the bottom of the index, with poor scores for LGBTQ+ rights and press freedom, while Iraq was second last at 183.
