Greece resumes UK EES biometrics

Greece’s biometric registration for the Entry Exit System (EES) is again fully operational for all non-EU travellers subject to the system.

At the beginning of April, the Greek government said it would temporarily ease biometric requirements for UK passport holders to reduce queues and congestion at airports and border crossings.

However, at the time, the European Commission (EC) warned that, while the EES allowed flexibility to temporarily address congestion, the measure could only be implemented as a temporary reprieve.

The move also raised questions over whether the EC’s EES leniency rules should apply to all nationalities during busy periods.

The Greek Foreign Ministry told The Associated Press that it had not received any further updates or clarification as to whether specific nationalities could be temporarily exempt from the biometric process.
