Guided bike tours make a perfect family outing

Cape Town and the nearby areas are perfect to explore by bike and a guided tour through the city and the winelands is the perfect weekend escape for locals and tourists.

Quintin Smith, Founder of Bikes ’n Wines, says biking is an ideal way to take in the fresh air and enjoy the sights and sounds along the route.

The company operates guided tours through the Cape’s winelands and recently introduced Cape Town bike tours, which offer a unique opportunity to explore the city’s art, culture and delectable local food and beer.

The longer, guided road bike tours take guests around the Cape Peninsula and coastal roads.

“Rather than simply seeing Cape Town through the window of a car or the lens of a camera, we believe that immersing yourself in the rich, diverse, natural wonders that the city and region have to offer will leave you with fonder memories and an unforgettable connection to South Africa,”said Smith.

Bikes ’n Wines’ tours cater for different age groups and physical fitness levels.

On the four-hour ‘Art & Bikes in the City’, guests cycle through the back roads to enjoy the iconic street art and local culture.

It takes in the historically significant District Six, the colourful Bo Kaap and the Company’s Garden, stopping at the National Gallery en route.

‘Discover Stellenbosch with the family’ is a six-hour tour that is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

Kids are entertained with their own exciting pairings, while adults can enjoy the sights and sample some local wines.

Children from age six pay full price, and receive a full tasting and pairing schedule of non-alcoholic drinks and snacks.

Other tours include ‘Enjoy some luxury in Franschhoek’, ‘Discover Klein Constantia by eBike’, and ‘Conquer the Cape Peninsula by bike’.

The prices of the tours range from R745 to R1 945 depending on the length of the tour and the inclusions.

The price includes the rental of the bike and helmet and a tour guide, and some tours include snacks, lunch or wine tasting options.

The type of bike depends on the tour and include eBikes, racing, mountain or city bikes.
