Heathrow pax levels surge

A surge in passenger numbers at London Heathrow compared with the same period last year, has reduced its losses in the first nine months of this year.

Heathrow said it handled 59,4 million passengers between January and the end of September, compared with 44,2 million during the same period last year, reports thenationalnews.com.

Furthermore, the airport said it now expected to handle about 79,3 million passengers by the end of this year compared with its earlier forecast of 70-78 million, reports gulfnews.com.

Its adjusted loss before tax has been reduced from £442 million (R10bn) in the first nine months of 2022 to £19 million (R433m) in the same period this year.

Heathrow has been facing struggles regarding passenger charge caps and, most recently, an increase in its air traffic control charges.
