Hiking into the past

FOLLOWING the path of the cannibals who fled the wrath of Zulu King Shaka in the early 19th century, visiting the site where the Vow of Bloodriver (which preceded the infamous battle between the Zulus and the Boers) took place and pausing at the battlefield of Talana where Boers and British soldiers fought during the Anglo-Boer War (1899 to 1902) are just a few of the historic sites visited on Jacana's newly launched two-day overnight, Izemfene Hiking Trail in KwaZulu Natal.
Located in Biggarsberg area, hikers walk through indigenous forests in gorges that feature over 269 recorded species of fauna and flora.
Accommodation is in overnight camps consisting of an old cattle and sheep kraal, with hot running water.
